Fresh from touring with James Holden and the Animal Spirits, Liza Bec presents her innovative electroacoustic improvisational ensemble Spiral Dial. They released Brain Song and its accompanying short story, Innervate. The track sends you into a lush oasis with flute melodies and a combination of other melodies to create this marvelous combination.

Innervate is the brainchild of Liza Bec, whose life as a classical clarinetist was transformed when she was diagnosed in 2008 with a rare form of epilepsy triggered by playing certain patterns of notes.

“I had to re-learn how to play”, Liza says. “I spent several years without playing a note.”

She finally overcame this obstacle by discovering a new talent for improvising, allowing her to avoid most of her triggers.

The music for INNERVATE is based on her original short story set in a world where minds are mere commodities to be disposed of at will. Everything is improvised live, so each performance will be completely unique.

Using a customized robotic tenor recorder created with the help of Leafcutter John, Liza creates hypnotic and mesmerizing soundscapes, together with David Ryder Prangley (Rachel Stamp, Adam Ant) on bass guitar and Adam Hayes on percussion. Visual design for INNERVATE was created by Dan Tombs (Jon Hopkins) and Catalina Velasquez Gonzalez.

This is a beautiful story and I felt so happy as I listened to this track. I hope it gets a visual. I would also love to see one of those live shows. It seems amazing.

Lil Yung didn’t come to play with his new single, ‘WestSide Day’. The Barney Rumble produced track creates an old school vibe infused with a modern-day California feel. His aggressive flow is impressive because it also sounds chill like a 1990’s classic hip hop flow comparable to Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. The lyrism in this track almost makes you feel like you are where he’s describing and his ability to tell a story as he does is crazy. The cover art alone hooked me. It’s so well done and crisp, something out of Marvel movie almost.

He honors both the West Side of Chicago and the West Coast this track takin inspration from Psychodrama, and Twista, Neo allows his alter ego, Lil’ Yung, to spit some WestSide gangster shit, from a South Side perspective. It’s always interesting to see artist with two different sides to there story.

Joel Blackmon has released an awesome new track called “If I Didn’t Know You” I really liked the video for this song, the guy standing around with his guitar and photos on the ground I’m not sure what that was about but the neighborhood view was nice. Portland dream-pop quartet, Superocean is back with some 80’s inspired realness titled, Best Thing’. This track is fresh off the new ‘When You’re Around’ EP: Listening to this feels like a refreshing breeze. Its smooth drum and guitar melody with infused synth bring that retro sound for sure. The lead vocals are a perfect fit and also has that nostalgic sound to go along with the melody.

They began as CASTLES in 2016 according to thier bio. After several years of adventurous, spaced-out indie rock and one EP, they renamed and began branching out with synth elements and poppier song structures on the 2019 Superocean EP. Artist, Skvwalker has released an anime-inspired summer banger titled, Explosion Kid’. The track showcases many easters eggs from famous beloved animes like Dragonball Z, Naruto, One Punch-Man, and most notably for the character Katsuki Bakugo, My Hero Academia. The Ev Grimes produced track comes on strong and finishes strong wth a killer bass foundation. His aggressive flow brings his lyrics to life. The catchy chrous is like icing on top.

Singer songwriter, Michael Colton is here to give us the exclusive listen to his new single, ‘Leave The Light On’. It’s a feel-good and hopeful track that just sends hope to anyone listening. I started to smile from the first verse. It’s beautiful and his voice is soothing and creates this reassurance in you as you hear it. The song illustrates the lifelong connection between a father and son that begins with the early rituals of childhood. Colton’s clear, resonant vocals and emotive lyricism convey both the everyday interactions with his young son while at the same time, taking the singer back to his youth and the wisdom his parents imparted on him.

Colton has garnered significant accolades for his impeccable storytelling and his sound that seamlessly melds country, blues, and rock traditions, not to mention his masterful guitar chops. Produced by noted film and television composer/producer Brett Boyett, “Leave The Light On” features Colton on vocals and guitar as well as a group of talented studio musicians to round out the production.
