Holiday! talks his start, new single and more. – Reignland

We got a chance to sit down with singer and songwriter, Holiday! and I couldn’t have been more excited. His new single just hit platforms and we just had to learn more.

  1. How did you get started in music?

My love for music started since I was 6 years old when I would join school performances. Songs such as Lilo & Stitch’s “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” were one of my first experiences at showmanship. This would further develop in my high school show choir during competitions held in New York and California. Where I performed songs such as “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and “Singing in the Rain” by Gene Kelly with my fellow peers.

At the end of high school, I purchased my first guitar and started gaining interest in classic rock such as The Beatles, and Chuck Berry. Also, my father’s love for folk-rock artists such as Neil Young and Jim Croce helped influence my passion for music. With each CD rented out from the library, I was inspired by the story’s musicians would portray in their songs. As cheesy as it sounds, I was motivated to create my songs to share my stories with the world.

2. What old school rock artists influence your sound?

Many artists influence my sound but in terms of old school rock, the Beatles, the Ramones, and KISS standout. However, my sound is mostly influenced by old school surf rock artists such as The Beach Boys, the Ventures, and Dick Dale.

3. What about that era of music, makes you incorporate it with your own music?

The era of music I am fond of is the 50’s because it was a time of simplicity and innocence. Where artists discovered new ways to create music that can portray human emotion. The whole 50’s aesthetic ranging from rockabilly fashion, hot rods, drive-in theatres, etc. was so fascinating to me. Sometimes I would dream of living in that time. Although, what caught my attention were the simple chord progressions and lyrics that made playing guitar fun and easy.

My first single “Badly Missing You ☹” was inspired by the Beatles as I tried to capture the innocence of young love. Such as feeling restless without your significant other and kissing them when you see each other again. While “Making My Way” takes influences from my love for surf music.

  • How did your new single come about?

The making of “Making My Way” came about after I listened to numerous surf rock artists such as The Beach Boys, and the Ventures. As well as my desire to capture the experience of relaxing by the beach and riding a tide. Like my earlier childhood experiences growing up on a tropical island. However, I composed this single during a rough time in my life after going through a tough break-up. I felt anger, sadness, betrayal, and most of all lost.

For the first time in my life, I did not know how to control these emotions running through my head. Thus, I figured that If I turn what I felt into a song then it would help my mental state. Once complete, I realized that I have made something out of nothing. It was almost therapeutic as I had let go of the terrible emotions I felt. As I listen to “Making My Way” I am now relieved and am at peace with my past. In the end, it was the closure I needed, and it was a way of telling myself that I can ride the tide once more with a fresh new start.

5. What do you want your listeners to take away from your new single?

What I want my listeners to take away from my single is to feel good about letting go of the past and accepting that life goes on no matter the consequence. I want them to feel relief in knowing that you can reach a better state after going through the negative emotions. Once you let go anything is possible with where life takes you next.

Be sure to listen to his new single, ‘Making My Way’ above now and leave your feedback below.
