You are absolutely right when you said being transparent in your songs would draw your fans closer to you. We as fans want to know that you the artist does go through the same things that we do. Most of the time it’s the lyrics that keep your fans close, the lyrics make us think and if the artist can break through to someone with their words you have a friend for life. Of course good music do help. Loved your song.
