Keir Gibson talks about the mans side of having a heartbreak in “Hollow” – Reignland Magazine

Hollow, the second single from Fort William based singer-songwriter, Keir Gibson, is coming from a very different place to his brilliantly received debut Eyes Wide. The track showcases beautiful vocals from the artist over a calming but powerful instrumental.  Where the latter showed vulnerability, Hollow demonstrates self-awareness and optimism crafted into a cathartic pop soundscape.

London duo ‘The Nocturns’ (Charlie Martin and Joe Housley) have provided the track’s beat-driven alt-pop production, while finishing touches are courtesy of Grammy-nominated California-based mix engineer Matty Green (TV on the Radio, Weezer, Taylor Swift, Hailey Steinfeld) and NYC-based Grammy-winning mastering engineer Joe La Porta. From the foot of Ben Nevis, to London, Santa Monica, New York and back to Scotland, this track has been sent a fair distance by the young Highlander who is emerging as a major contender in the alt-pop scene.

In the past year, Keir has progressed from playing small support slots in his local town of Fort William to travelling the country to work with some of the best emerging producers in the UK. The results are songs that showcase a love of production akin to the likes of Maggie Rogers, Julia Michaels and Lauv, with lyrics that showcase a natural talent for honest and engaging storytelling.

His debut Eyes Wide, released in August after a triumphant return to Belladrum Festival, saw numerous playlist additions across the UK and Europe, a positive critical response for major new music blogs “all is indie” and “hype machine”, and caused many of the UK’s A&R community to lift their heads and take note of this rising talent.

The release of Eyes Wide was followed up with shows across the UK and Ireland in support of Irish act Keywest and London-based songwriter Billy Lockett. Keir has also been announced among the line-up for Edinburgh’s infamous Hogmanay Street Party, alongside the likes of Mark Ronson, Soft Cell frontman Marc Almond and Glasgow new wave act The Ninth Wave.

Hollow channels all of this early validation into a sound with even greater ambition, romanticism and escapism than was abundant in his debut. 2020 promises to be an exciting year for this young Scottish talent.

Keir said: “The reaction to Eyes Wide was really cool and something I didn’t expect. I’m excited to see Hollow connect with the audience as it shows a different part of my sound. The last few months have given me the chance to develop my writing, work with some brilliant people and play more live shows than ever before. It’s been incredible.

“Getting to play across the UK and Ireland for the first time this autumn has been a dream come true and I’ve learned loads about touring. I’m also really excited to play a headline hometown show in Fort William in December as well as joining the bill for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay – it’s the perfect end to the year for me.”
