Los Angeles based RnB and soul artist China releases a fiery new track called “Calm Down” This creates a empowering oasis with sultry and soulful vocals. The heavy bass and drums ass a strong foundation. She’s a fierce voice to be dealing with. Her nonchalant lyrics spill so much relatable content. Her low but tough tone in her verses are outstanding.
“I wrote Calm Down in Los Los Angeles with producer, Rafa (Different Sleep) who produced my debut single Trust. I go in and out of loving and hating my own music, but I had recently listened to Trust again and was feeling exactly the way I felt when I wrote it. I wanted to make a follow up single that had the same vibe. I went to the studio pissed off because I had just had a conversation with a guy who wanted to take me on a date but felt the need to disrespect other women to raise me up and flatter me, which I hate. I was also really confused by another boys non-transparency at the time so I wrote a super long paragraph about how I was feeling and then took lines from it to form the lyrics in Calm Down” , she explains.
She has major success performing festival slots at Beyond The Valley & Wildlands over New Years alongside RÜFÜS DU SOL & Tyler, The Creator, on top of supporting Lion Babe recently on their Virtual Tour. After sharing the stage with Tkay Maidza at just 18 years of age, China maintained a close friendship with the esteemed rapper – even making a cameo in her latest music video, the highly praised ‘Shook’.
